20241205 | Kaohsiung MRT Bureau Wins Excellence Award at the 2024 Cloud & IoT Innovation Awards

The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau has won the Excellence Award at the 2024 Cloud & IoT Innovation Awards with its “5G Smart Rail Transportation and Human-Centered AI Integration” project. The ceremony, held on November 29 by the Taiwan Cloud & IoT Industry Association, was attended by Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao, Digital Minister Yennun Huang and Director-General of the Industrial Development Agency Chih-Ching Yang — underscoring the national significance of the programme. The Bureau’s delegation, led by Deputy Secretary-General Chi-Chuan Wang, accepted the award together with partner teams from Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation and Wistron Corporation.

The winning project takes the Kaohsiung Metro and the Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail as its core test fields. It integrates several advanced technologies across the rail network: 3D digital twin modelling of infrastructure, robotic and drone-based inspection, next-generation railway mobile communications, and the smart integration of circular light-rail signalling with roadside traffic-violation detection systems. Together these systems form a unified platform for monitoring, maintaining and managing the network in real time.

Operationally, the project has delivered measurable results. By combining high-performance management tools with AI-powered data analysis, the Bureau has improved the reliability, availability and maintainability of the transit system while substantially strengthening operational safety and reducing risk. The initiative also demonstrates the considerable potential of smart technologies applied to public transportation.

The Bureau stated that it will continue advancing smart transportation, green mobility and sustainable development, applying IoT, cloud technologies and artificial intelligence to make further contributions to Kaohsiung’s public transport systems. Drone Dynamics views this recognition of Taiwan’s smart-infrastructure sector as further evidence of the country’s strengths in UAV-related and IoT-driven innovation — inspection of smart infrastructure like this is precisely the domain of the Drone Dynamics Sentinel X4 Plus Recon, our inspection-focused UAV.
